

Douglas Jack Agu, popularly known as Runtown, was born on 19 August 1989 in Enugu, Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos and Abuja but later moved back to Enugu after the death of his father.
Runtown developed a passion for music at a young age, drawing inspiration from a wide variety of genres including reggae, hip-hop, R&B, and Afrobeats. Initially, he planned to study Fashion Management at a university in New York but decided to fully pursue his music career instead.
Runtown entered Nigeria’s mainstream music scene around 2007, releasing singles and collaborating with artists such as J-Martins and Timaya. His early style blended Afro-fusion, hip-hop, and reggae.
His big break came in 2014 with the Davido-assisted single “Gallardo”, which won the Best Collaboration of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
He solidified his status in 2015 with his debut album Ghetto University, which featured the mega hit Gallardo. The album was commercially successful, earning him a spot among Nigeria’s most bankable artists.
In 2016, Runtown achieved global fame with “Mad Over You”, a mid-tempo Afropop track heavily inspired by Ghanaian highlife. The song became one of the biggest Afrobeats hits of the decade, topping charts across Africa and beyond.
