For years, My Sasun has been a household name for Nigerians and Africans living in the United States. It was more than just an online grocery store; it was a reliable bridge to home, bringing authentic spices, staples, and fresh foods right to our doorsteps.
Recently, the community received bittersweet news. Lara Ajetunmobi, the founder and CEO of My Sasun, officially announced the permanent closure of the business. It is not a rebranding, but a final wind-down of a decade-long journey. As she closes this chapter, Lara is running a massive “CLEAR OUT” sale to liquidate all remaining physical inventory—giving us one last chance to stock up while supporting a visionary entrepreneur.
To understand the weight of this closure, we have to look back at what Lara Ajetunmobi built. Her story is a masterclass in Nigerian resilience.
Lara didn’t start with massive corporate funding. She launched My Sasun from her college dorm room, balancing rigorous studies with her passion for African cuisine. Through sheer grit, she expanded the business from a small hustle into a massive operation, eventually opening a major warehouse in Celina, Texas. In early 2024, she broke even more ground by launching a second fulfillment center in Houston, allowing My Sasun to distribute goods to thousands of customers nationwide.
She constantly innovated, even transitioning the platform into an open marketplace in 2025 to empower other African vendors. Over the last ten years, Lara paved the way in the diaspora grocery space, proving what is possible for African entrepreneurs in America.
So why close a beloved business? In a beautifully honest and heartfelt video announcement released to her community, Lara explained the difficult decision to permanently shut down.
Rather than compromising on the high standards she set, she chose to close the doors with grace. In her own powerful words:
“We could have kept the doors open just to say we were still open. But that was never the vision. My Sasun was created to solve a problem, serve people well, and do something different in the African grocery space. And when we realized we could no longer operate at the level we had worked so hard to build, we had a decision to make. Sometimes strength is fighting to hold on. And sometimes strength is knowing when it is time to let go. We came. We saw. By the grace of God, we conquered. And now, we close this chapter with gratitude.”
As the business winds down, all remaining inventory in the Texas warehouses must be cleared out. My Sasun is currently running a huge liquidation sale with heavily discounted prices.
Whether you need to restock your pantry or prepare for weekend cooking, this is the time to buy. The clearance section spans:
When an entrepreneur pours a decade of love, sweat, and capital into serving our community, the best way we can say “thank you” is to show up for them at the finish line. Lara made sure we never had to miss the taste of home; let’s make sure she doesn’t close her doors with leftover stock.

To Lara Ajetunmobi: Thank you for daring to build. We celebrate your achievements, and we can’t wait to see what doors open for you next!
