

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, was born on 14 June 2002 in Cotonou, Benin Republic, to Nigerian parents from Kwara State. She grew up between Cotonou and Lagos, in a close-knit Christian family.
Music was always a part of her upbringing—she sang in her church choir as a child and was influenced by artists such as Nicki Minaj, 2Face Idibia (2Baba), Shakira, Rihanna, and Angelique Kidjo.
Before fame, Ayra Starr pursued modelling, signing with Quove Agency, and appeared in ads for brands like Mazelle Studio, Esperanza, and Concept Magazine.
Ayra Starr began posting covers of popular songs on Instagram, where her soulful voice quickly caught attention. In 2019, one of her videos reached Don Jazzy, who signed her to Mavin Records in 2020.
Her self-titled debut EP, Ayra Starr (2021), introduced her to the mainstream with hits like Away and DITR. Later in 2021, she released her debut album 19 & Dangerous, which produced mega-hits like Bloody Samaritan.
By 2022–2023, Ayra Starr had become a global Afrobeats star, with Rush charting internationally and her recognition spreading to the U.S. and Europe.
